Up until I purchased this LCD TV (SONY BRAVIA 46W5100), I have studied all the options for months before buying this 46 inch TV.
It came down to three manufacturers LCD TV’s: SONY, SHARP or Samsung for best picture quality, design and sound.
Conclusion: SONY BRAVIA is the BEST and superior in quality!!! (Although SHARP should get all the credits for developing LCD TVs all together, but seemed to slow down in further developing the technology. On the other hand, Samsung keeps copying everything what SONY and SHARP have done to LCD TVs, Samsung is STILL few years behind in technologies to SONY and SHARP manufacturers.) While Samsung is only interested in thinning down the flat screen TVs, all other manufacturers are directing their technologies in advancing the picture quality and sound. I personally do not care about thinner LCD/LED TV, but better picture quality and sound. I think Samsung’s R & R Division should better reconsider the direction they are going.

I have been doing research on a new TV for months. Choosing the size was the easiest part based on the space I wanted to fill. Room is very bright, so LCD was the likely choice; although I didn’t rule out the new Panasonic plasmas with their anti glare, but they are lacking in picture adjustments. The Samsungs are all generally too reflective. I saw the new Sony W5100 and started watching that model. I was waiting for some reviews to read some opinions, but it was too new. I had decided to go with the W5100 based on the price, energy efficient, and the fact that I had read that there really wasn’t a discernible difference between 120hz and 240hz. Choosing the sony brand was based on the fact that netflix will be available this fall, and that I have a PS3. I finally decided on the Z5100 because I saw it in the store and noticed the bezel was nice and thin, and that the tv speakers pointed forward. Most flat panels’ speakers point down, so I figured it would help when watching broadcast tv to have the speakers pointed forward. Not the most ’scientific’ method of selection.

I received this TV a week ago and I am in love. This TV has the Bravia Engine 3, not 2 like the spec sheet on this page says, so for the money, you are getting a top notch product. SD signals look like crap, because they are crap, its not your TV’s fault, its your cable provider, but HD looks amazing. I have not been having any problems with the black levels, as described in other Sony reviews, and the colors are rich and vibrant. Plenty of inputs on this set. I currently have my macbook (watching HULU and other video streams, picture looks great) via DVI to HDMI, a PS3 (which is giving me the true 1080p experience for Blue Ray Discs, which is what I base my color and black observations on) and a HD cable box also taking up another HDMI port. I still have not even used 1/4 of the inputs provided. The cinema mode when watching movies adds a warmth to the picture that gives you a movie theatre experience without the “true white” LCD overexposure.

I will admit up front that I am a complete HDTV newbie. I hung on to a 20 year old, 22 inch CRT color “monitor television” for far too long, in part because I do not watch much television programming (a bit of baseball, PBS, occaisional Law & Order reruns, that sort of thing) and in part because the whole HDTV techno nerd thing was too intimidating. After much online research and a few surreptitious visits to Big Box electronics stores, I finally settled on the 40XBR9 and bought it from an Amazon seller — and could not be more pleased with my selection. The picture quality is simply riveting. The menus are reasonably user friendly and I have not found it all that difficult to calibrate for optimum results in a softly lighted room. With minor tweaking, the factory defaults work well for most cable television programming. I used the CNET suggested calibration for movies on the 52XBR9, and it works very well on this 40 inch unit.

This is a great HDTV. Hands down is one of the most beautiful displays in this size. You can buy a fancier ultra-thin 32″ TV from Samsung right now but it’s almost twice the price!

Pros: The blacks are black! When you start it up, the Bravia logo appears on a black background and it’s as black as when the TV is off! People say that edge LED lighting will make the blacks truer with less backlight bleeding but this TV is already great in this aspect. The colors and settings are very good out of the box for a few of the styles but need adjustment like any TV. The nice thing is that when you change your input, the TV remembers all the settings for that input! So it’s like you never have to re-adjust your settings unless you plug your stuff in differently.

I bought this TV from our local BestBuy. I had been looking at the Samsung edge-lit LED/LCD line. The LG TV rep happened to be at the Fort Worth store, and he was really helpful. I’ve had the TV now for three four days, and I couldn’t be happier.

The TV is used in a well-lit living area, making the matte screen useful. I have looked at a LOT of TVs, and if you’re worried about the matte screen diminishing picture quality, don’t be. It kills reflections very effectively. The picture is gorgeous, regardless of source (LG BD390 Blu-ray player and a Dish Network 722 receiver in my case). Beautiful color, black blacks. Try the THX picture mode – it looks VERY realistic. My mom had a Panasonic plasma TV, and this is a better picture.

Worth buying just for the futuristic standby/on power light; can be disabled if you’re not as fond of it as I am.

But if you’re looking for a great LCD set for a price that, while not cheap, is more affordable than most of the competition, this might just be a winner for you. This TV was on my short list as soon as it was announced. It’s a beautiful glossy black TV, with a subtle infused blue around the edges. The blue is only really visible in certain light, otherwise it just looks glossy black, but the TV looks beautiful either way. I don’t care much for the “mole” that sticks down on the bottom left of the TV as I’m a fan of symmetry, however this is still a gorgeous TV.
The LH90 series is LG’s flagship LCD this year featuring backlit “local dimming” LED’s, and in my IMO it’s one of the best buys on the market. Local Dimming allows for deeper blacks, that rival good plasmas, and easily beat normal non LED LCD’s. The picture on the this TV is fantastic. Beginning last year and continuing this year, LG offers more picture/color adjustments then any other manufacturer. Colors are great out of the box, and your video modes include Standard, Natural, THX Cinema, Sport, Game or Vivid. In addition there are two Expert modes where you can create and save the exact picture you want. Also there is an intelligent sensor mode that automatically adjusts the picture for you based on the ambient light in the room. The OSD menus are color and icon driven and very easy to use. They are much better then what is offered by most other manufacturers. The OSD menus and pictures adjustments is one area where LG trumps all other manufacturers. I would rate Samsung second in this regard.

Great set with wonderful picture. Sound is weak so I added Bose Music Monitor speakers and that completely solved that problem (connected to earphone jack). Internal speakers are OK while on the go. This set is identical to one sold by Supersonic but picture quality of Haier is superior. DVD works well. Remote is well laid out and superior to the one that came with the Supersonic. The antenna connection is recessed and diffacult to get to without a wrench. I added a 90 degree screw adapter from Radio Shack and now the connection is easyly made.

Love the dvd feature and added Bose speakers for home use. Set is easy to operate and quality superior to Supersonic.

PLEASE NOTE: Set is black and much better looking than the picture showen. I have two of these units and use one everyday in my bedroom.

I bought this product on Amazon with mostly the hope I could pass to the kids in the backseat on trips. Whether this product will work in this regard still remains to be seen and will likely depend on coverage as I drive around. Out of the box, the PTV-350 looks well made and was easy to activate. It comes with headphones and a polishing cloth. It doesn’t appear to be supported with a case or screen guard just yet but I suppose that will come. As a TV I have to admit I expected better video quality. Although I’m in the burbs outside NYC I do see my fair share of pixelation and artifacts. I was hoping for better. The quality of video doesn’t match downloaded video of an iphone from say itunes but it is TV and sometimes live depending on channel. In the settings it tells me my signal quality is low which is surprizing. Sound is good and changing channels easy. Perhaps the video will get better and hopefully not worse. Overall I see promise. I hope my testing in next few days will reveal it can be used driving around in my area. Update: Drove around and this unit held a signal really good. I also experienced better video once in a stronger signal -much improved. I’m giving it four stars as of now. It looks like it is a keeper.
